The Rev Dr David Powys
Our Vicar, The Reverend Dr David Powys, BA Hons (Melb), BSW (Melb), BTh (ACT), ThD (ACT), took up responsibility for St John’s in Nov 2008.
Prior to this for good 17 years, he was Vicar of Mt Eliza, one of Melbourne’s largest Anglican churches. He is married to Penny (psychologist and social worker) and they have three married children.
Ordained for nearly thirty years, David is a biblical scholar who is keen to apply the Bible to everyday life and to build a loving outward looking Christian Community.
He is dedicated to ministry in the outer suburbs and put aside a number of wider responsibilities in to focus on ministry at St John’s. He sees Cranbourne as one of the most significant places in Melbourne because of its population size and expected growth.
The parish in the last few years under his able leadership and ministry has seen significant growth. The building project and the restoration of the hall (to happen soon) have been extremely well managed and planned by him the Wardens, the Vestry and the committees that were formed to have this dream come true
Rev. Matt Scheffer (BTh./ BMin.)
Matt is married to Fiona and they have two young children.
Matt joined the parish at the beginning of 2015 after completing four years of theological training at Ridley College, Parkville. He was ordained Deacon in the Diocese of Melbourne and later in the same year ordained as a priest. Matt oversees ministry to children, youth, young adults and families as well as other pastoral responsibilities in assisting the vicar, David.
He enjoys reading biographies and Australian history, occasionally going for a hit of golf and supports the Hawthorn football club.
